India has opened a visa office in Jaffna, on the northern tip of Sri Lanka, to assist tourists from the area. Previously, applicants would have had to make the long 300km journey to Colombo to obtain a visa. The Visa Application Centre marks the start of significant effort by the Indian Consulate to tap into the tourism potential from northern Sri Lanka.
