India’s first railway university will open in Gujarat, the country’s Minister of Railways has revealed.
The Economic Times reported Manoj Sinha as saying this week that the new facility will be developed in the city of Vadodara, and will offer a series of degrees in railway-related subjects.
“The present campus for [the] National Academy of Indian Railways, Vadodara, will be initially used to start the railway university,” the minister was quoted saying. “After land acquisition, a fully-fledged university will be started here.
“In the first phase, the university will start offering MBA and MTech degrees, after which it will offer diploma and BTech in railway operations,” Sinha added.
India’s rail network is one of the largest in the world, handling more than 23 million passengers per day. And state-run Indian Railways is one of the world’s biggest employers, with a headcount of approximately 1.4 million employees.
