Two regional airlines in India have cancelled their flights over payment issues.
The Economic Times reports that Air Costa cancelled all its flights this week, due to issues with payments to its aircraft leasing company. This follows the recent suspension of all Air Pegasus services.
Air Costa is based in Vijayawada and also operates flights from Chennai. The flights cancelled this week included services to Coimbatore, Vishakhapatnam, Ahmedabad and Jaipur. It tried to reassure passengers that flights would resume on Friday.
“From [Friday] we will start our operations as scheduled. We are resolving the issues we have with lessors. We are very positive about our operations and future expansions. There are absolutely no issue regarding salaries in Air Costa,” Kavi Chaurasia, Air Costa’s vice president of marketing was reported saying.
Air Costa currently leases four Embraer E190 jet aircraft from GE Capital Aviation Services (GECAS), the global aircraft leasing company. It also has outstanding orders with Embraer for 50 of its new E2 aircraft, but these are not due to be delivered until 2018.
Bengaluru-based Air Pegasus was forced to cancel all its flights in late July after its planes were repossessed by Elix Aviation, the Irish aircraft leasing company.
