Indian arrivals grow 11% in February

International tourism arrivals to India continued to rise in February.
According to new data from the Ministry of Tourism, the country welcomed 847,000 overseas visitors last month, up 11.3% compared with February 2015. This took the total number of arrivals for the first two months of the year to 1.69m, up 9.0% year-on-year.
Bangladesh was the largest source market for India in February, accounting for 13.0% of total arrivals, followed by the USA (12.9%) and UK (12.5%). Canada (4.7%), Sri Lanka (3.9%), Germany (3.5%), France (3.5%), Malaysia (3.3%), China (3.1%) and Russia (3.1%) completed the top 10.
Delhi Airport handled the most arriving visitors during the month (32.3% of the total), followed by Mumbai Airport (17.2%), Chennai Airport (7.3%), the Haridaspur land border which connects India with Bangladesh (7.0%) and Bengaluru Airport (5.7%).
India’s international tourism revenues also increased in February, rising 17.1% year-on-year to almost US$2 billion.
