Couples in India could soon get married at sea on luxury cruises in locations like Goa, Mumbai and the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, India’s Minister for Road Transport, Highways & Shipping, Nitin Gadkari has said.
According to an Economic Times report, the government is planning to facilitate such services in India and weddings at sea could accommodate about 4,000 people.
The newspaper added that the government is also planning to launch a new fleet of seaplanes, to further boost India’s marine tourism sector. According to Gadkari, the plan is in its final stages and could see at least 25 seaplanes introduced to India.
“We have received a proposal from an investor to operate 25 seaplanes in India at the first leg. The proposal has been sent to DGCA (Directorate General of Civil Aviation) for approval and once it is through, the services can be started here,” the minister was quoted saying.
The government is planning to develop 1,300 islands and 218 lighthouses to attract tourists, along with 2,000 watersports sites across the country.
