Passengers on Indian trains will now be offered a new range of “ready-to-eat” meals.
The Economic Times reported Indian Railways Catering & Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) as saying that the new hot meals will be offered on all express trains with pantry cars. The pre-cooked meals will be offered as part of the existing a la carte menus.
The initiative follows the recent launch of a new e-catering service by Indian Railways, which is offered on 1,350 rail services without pantry cars. Rolled out by IRCTC last year, this service allows passengers to pre-book their meals online and pick them up at stations.
The new ready-to-meals, which are described as being “good quality and hygienic”, will be supplied by external catering companies.
