IndiGo improves domestic market share

IndiGo’s domestic market share in India is increasing, with the low-cost carrier now handling more than 40% of total passenger traffic on routes within the country.
According to the latest data from India’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), IndiGo carried 3.77 million passengers on routes within India in November 2016, accounting for 42.1% of total domestic traffic. This is the third consecutive month that IndiGo has secured a 40% domestic market share.
This has gradually increased from 37.0% in the first quarter of 2016, to 38.4% in Q2 and 39.9% in Q3. In the first 11 months of the year, IndiGo has now carried 35.42 million domestic passengers, 39.2% of the total market.
In November 2016, Jet Airways was India’s second largest domestic carrier (1.34m passengers, 14.9% market share), followed by Air India (1.16m, 12.9%), SpiceJet (1.15m, 12.8%) and GoAir (720,000, 8.0%).
