Indonesia’s government has ordered the country’s airlines and airports to prepare for a strike by Garuda pilots. The Garuda Pilot Association (APG) is planning a one-day strike today (Thursday 28 July) in protest against a pay disparity between local and foreign pilots. Garuda has pledged not to cancel any services today, and plans to move some pilots currently working in administrative jobs into the cockpit.
Garuda and the APG are at odds over the pay discrepancy between Indonesian and expat pilots. The airline claims that the difference is fair, as Indonesian pilots receive extra benefits.
