Indonesia has grounded all McDonnell Douglas MD-90 passenger jets operating in the country after two accidents as many weeks, The Straits Times reported a senior official as saying.
A Lion Air MD-90 with 156 people on board was forced to land without its front gear in February, while another on the private carrier’s MD-90s with 168 passengers skidded off the runway on Monday after landing in heavy rain at Jakarta’s Soekarno-Hatta International Airport.
Lion Air is the only airline using MD-90s in Indonesia, operating five of the aircraft, which are all ageing and due to be phased out.
