The EU’s decision follows April’s downgrade of Indonesian airlines’ safety rating by the US Federal Aviation Authority. Though its airlines fly to neither, these pronouncements could put pressure on Indonesia’s tourism industry if they spook travelers into cancelling their trips. “We would retaliate if, and only if, the EU does not engage with us. We want constructive dialogue, collaboration and cooperation,” Suyitno was quoted as saying.
