The Indonesian government is allocating IDR210 trillion (US$23.3 billion) toward economic development in the eastern region. The announcement was made by Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Mari Elka Pangestu, who told the Jakarta Post that 136 different projects will be funded with the budget. She added that the tourism sector would receive 28% of the budget to fund infrastructure development across the underdeveloped area of the country. By focussing on infrastructure, Mari expects to drive development quickly, targeting eight million visitors next year, up from 7.7 million this year.In order to hit this target, Indonesian authorities will focus promotional efforts on Australia, China and India, which economies are doing well amid global economic uncertainty.
