International bodies sign deal on South Pacific tourism

SPC Director General Dr Jimmie Rodgers and SPTO Chief Executive Officer Ilisoni Vuidreketi signed a Memorandum of Understanding at SPC headquarters in Noumea, New Caledonia
The Secretariat of the Pacific Community (SPC) and the South Pacific Tourism Organisation (SPTO) have agreed to work together for the benefit of the region’s tourism.
SPC Director General Dr Jimmie Rodgers and SPTO Chief Executive Officer Ilisoni Vuidreketi signed a Memorandum of Understanding under which the partners agree to mutually ensure the enhanced services to their 14 common members. Together they will develop programmes to improve infrastructure, encourage private sector development and enhance human resources capacity in the region.
Dr Rodgers said; SPC and SPTO will work together in areas of importance to island countries and territories that require balancing developmental and tourism outcomes, such as in ecosystems management, conservation and culture. Countries to benefit from the schemes include Cook Islands, Fiji, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Nauru, New Caledonia, Niue, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tahiti, Samoa, Tahiti, Tonga, Tuvalu, Vanuatu and Papua New Guinea.
