Australia has built its first Islamic art museum – Islamic Museum of Australia. This was officially opened in Melbourne.
Louise Asher, minister for innovation, minister for tourism and major events, and minister for employment and trade from the State Government of Victoria, said the museum reinforces Melbourne’s role as a cultural capital.
“This museum will give the Victorian community an opportunity to discover and build a better understanding of Islamic arts, culture and heritage.”
The state government of Victoria has supported the project through a provision of an AU$500,000 grant through the cultural precincts and community infrastructure fund.
