Lufthansa has unveiled a new premium economy class for its long-haul aircraft.
The new class cabin and seat was revealed at ITB Berlin and is up to three centimetres wider and has 10 centimetre more room than its economy seats, with a 38-inch seat pitch.
Those travelling in Lufthansa’s premium economy will be able to carry two bags up to 23kg each and will receive a welcome drink, water bottle, meal and amenity kit onboard. Each passenger will also have their own touchscreen in-flight entertainment screen.
The premium economy cabin will first be introduced on the Boeing 747-8 from November 2014. It will contain between 21 and 52 seats depending on the aircraft, with plans to roll out the cabin on its entire long-haul fleet within 12 months.
“Our premium economy class will create a completely new travel experience that combines affordability with greater comfort. The seats offer up to 50% more room than economy class and will position us in a premium segment within the international competitive environment,” said Jens Bischof, CCO and Lufthansa board member in charge of sales, product and marketing.
In total 3,600 premium economy seats will be installed on 106 aircraft.
