Amid trouble at other airlines and start-ups, Korean Air is going ahead with the launch of its budget affiliate on July 17, giving it the name “Jin Air”.
Korea Times said Jin Air would start with the Gimpo-Jeju route on July 17. Plans are in the pipeline to fly from Seoul to Busan and Busan to Jeju as well but no dates have been announced, the report said.
The airline had originally planned on calling itself Air Korea but yesterday, it showed off its new public image, cabin crew and models of aircraft, the report said.
Jin Air means “truth” and “sincerity”. The carrier’s B737-800 aircraft is painted yellowish green. Flight attendants wear jeans and T-shirt, the first of its kind in Korea, the report said.
Fares are about 80% of Korean Air fares, the report said.
“Air Korea is not the average low-cost carrier. It is a carrier focused on short-haul routes with simple but sophisticated services at affordable prices while maintaining essential operating procedures at premium levels,” CEO Jae Kun Kim, was quoted saying in a statement last month.
The airline will acquire two more Boeing 737-800 aircraft this year and two Airbus A300-600 aircraft with 292 seats next year.
