The government-owned entity running Indonesian airports wants to increase passenger service charges by 50% for Jakarta, to bring charges for international passengers in line with those in Bali.
Bali Update (www.balidiscovery.com) quoted a Bisnis Indonesia report as saying that Angkasa Pura would be applying to the government to raise the charges.
Angkasa Pura currently charges passengers flying from Jakarta Rp 100,000 (US$10.75) for international departures and Rp. 30,000 (US$3.25) for domestic passengers. Bali Update said if the new tariff is approved, it would bring Jakarta in line with Bali which charges Rp. 150,000 for international passengers.
Similar percentage increases are likely to apply at all other airport in the country, the report said.
An official was quoted saying that the new fees would enable them to improve facilities and services at the airport, such as x-ray machines, cleaner toilers and more security staff.
