JAL achieves full-year profit
Japan Airlines (JAL) battled though the March 2011 natural disasters and gloomy economic environment to post an impressive JPY186.6 billion (US$2.3 billion) net profit for the 2011-12 financial year.
In a statement released today, JAL said that total operating revenues reached JPY 1.20 trillion for the year-to-31 March 2012 – slightly down on the JPY1.36 trillion it recorded in the 2010-11 financial year. While there were no comparative figures available for the company’s net result, JAL’s operating profit totaled JPY204.9 billion – slightly ahead of the JPY188.4 billion it achieved in the previous 12-month period.
The airline said it had improved profitability by “striking a better balance between demand and capacity… [and] responding swiftly to changes in the operating environment”.
