Japan Airlines (JAL) and China Eastern Airlines have agreed to significantly expand their codeshare partnership to include the two carriers’ entire Sino-Japanese networks. From 8 October 2011, the airlines will place their respective flight designators, ‘JL’ and ‘MU’, on every flight operated by the other between cities in China and Japan.
The expanded relationship expand JAL’s network to 16 Chinese cities, while China Eastern will add three cities – Shizuoka, Okayama and Nagasaki – to its existing network of 12 Japanese cities. The two airlines currently operate 386 weekly flights on 42 routes between the two countries.
Aside from the codeshare arrangement, JAL and Shanghai-based China Eastern also offer reciprocal frequent flyer benefits.
