JAL pledges to cut emissions

The JAL Group has proposed to cut its carbon dioxide emissions by 23% by 2020 as part of its Eco-First Pledge. Other green efforts taken up by the airline include the ‘shades closed exercise’, where passengers are asked to keep the cabin cool by shutting the shades of parked aircraft and the continued development of its Sky Eco envinronmental consvervation activities. JAL was recognised as an ‘Eco-First’ company today by the Ministry of the Environment of Japan (MOE) for its various green initiatives. As well as renewing its fleet with smaller, more fuel-efficient aircraft, JAL also explored the expanded use of ecological flight methods such as UPR (User Preferred Route), CDA (Continuous Descend Approach) and supported the use of biofuel. Forest-fire surveillance, atmospheric air research and environmental edcation initiatives have also been carried out by the airline in recent years.
