The JAL Group has requested governmental approval to remove the fuel surcharge placed on all JAL international passenger tickets.
JAL originally introduced the fuel surcharge on international tickets in February 2005 in response to rises in the cost of jet fuel. Since then, the surcharge has been progressively reduced. The new move will be applicable for tickets issued between 1 July to 30 September 2009, if the carrier’s request is accepted by Japan’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism.
