A Jamaican delegation, led by Minister of Tourism Edmund Bartlett, was in Beijing last week to promote tourism to the island. The minister (second from left in picture) met China National Tourism Administration’s (CNTA) Chairman Shao Qiwei to discuss ways to build upon the approved destination status (ADS) agreement signed in 2005. The delegation also met representatives of Air China and China Southern.
Chinese corporations have been playing key roles in the development of new resorts and the new Convention Center planned for Montego Bay that is expected to open by the end of 2009.
Chinese arrivals to Jamaica grew about 10% in 2007 over 2006, and it is expected that this trend will continue.
