A new monthly record for UK arrivals to Japan was set in March, with 34,700 visitors.
The previous record for UK monthly visitors to Japan was 27,100 in April 2015. These figures put the yearly total to date at 72,400 visitors, up 24.8% from last year, when January – March figures peaked at 58,005.
Typically, other European countries such as Spain, France, Germany and Italy tend to achieve a higher annual increase in visitor numbers, however the 2015 – 2016 comparison shows that the biggest increase in European visitor numbers this year has come from the UK.
Reasons for the rapid rise in UK visitors to Japan are thought to include cheap flight prices offered by airlines and a favourable exchange rate.
