Japan fuels tourism growth in Hawaii
Japanese outbound travellers are flocking to Hawaii where arrivals jumped 15.2% yoy in October to 125,742 visitors, making Japan Hawaii’s second largest inbound tourism market over the US East region.
Japanese tourists are not only arriving in greater numbers, but showing increasing willingness to spend, with per diem expenditure rising by 4% compared to October 2011, and according to the Hawaii Tourism Authority total Japanese visitor expenditures ascended by 18.8% to US$236.4 million.
This makes Japan among the highest performing source tourism markets with total expenditure by all visitors to Hawaii in October up 12.7% to US$1.1 billion.
