Japan’s Ogasawara Islands will be proposed for listing as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2011, Japan Times reported the government as saying. An informal recommendation will be sent to UNESCO this month, followed by a formal bid in January. The Ogasawara island chain covers some 7,400 hectares and encompasses Chichijima Island, Hahajima Island and surrounding seas.
