Japan to lift highway tolls

The Japanese Transport Ministry has unveiled a plan to make 1,626km of the nation’s expressways toll-free in 2010, Kyodo News has reported. The plan will affect 37 routes, or around 18% of the nation’s total expressway network, excluding the Tokyo metropolitan area and the Hanshin region surrounding Osaka.
