Jet2.com is launching a series of new routes for summer 2011. The low cost carrier has announced plans to fly from Manchester to Hurghada in Egypt and Bodrum in Turkey. In addition, the airline will fly to Alicante, Faro, Prague and Toulouse from Newcastle and Alicante, Bodrum, Faro, Palma and Rhodes from the East Midlands. Jet2holidays Managing Director Steve Heapy told Travel Daily the company has witnessed a rise in last minute bookings this year. “People are booking anything from four weeks in advance to right before they go,” explained Heapy. “I think the economy has a lot to do with this as customers are more guarded about their cash.” To encourage early bookings, the company has launched a ‘free child’ offer, which has worked well to entice families. “These are the people who are more likely to book in advance. However, we’re popular across the board with families, couples and groups of friends going on stag and hen parties,” added Heapy.” Meanwhile, Jet2Holidays has said it is ‘very keen’ to work as closely as possible with the UK travel trade. The company has entered into commercial partnerships with 800-1000 UK agencies and is hoping to form relationships with more in the coming months. In addition, Heapy said Jet2 hosts around eight-10 fam trips annually, designed to educate the trade on different destinations. “We have a couple coming up in the near future to Sharm el Sheikh and Tenerife. Interested agents can log on to tradesite.jet2holidays.com for more information,” he added.
