Jetstar added Hangzhou, in eastern China’s Zhejiang province, to its expanding network of destinations in China yesterday. The low-cost carrier becomes the first airline to offer direct flights between Singapore’s Changi airport and Hangzhou Xiaoshan International Airport, extending the carrier’s network of seven destinations in Greater China, including four to mainland China – Hangzhou, Guilin, Haikou and Shantou. The four times weekly service will be operated by Jetstar Asia’s Airbus A320 aircraft.
Jetstar Asia CEO, Chong Phit Lian, said; “We have long set our sights on Hangzhou, guided by the potential demand from both Singapore and Chinese travellers. Now travellers can have a more affordable alternative, not just to Hangzhou, but also to nearby Shanghai.
“Jetstar’s strategy for China has consistently been to create new direct-from-Singapore flights to Chinese cities that have high tourism potential. Examples include Guilin, Shantou and, now, Hangzhou.
“There’s no doubt our low fares will attract new and repeat travellers not only from Singapore but from other parts of the Jetstar network across the Asia Pacific to visit these Chinese cities,” Ms Chong added.
Changi Airport Group’s Executive Vice President for Air Hub Development, Yam Kum Weng, said; “Jetstar’s new service to Hangzhou gives Changi Airport its first non-stop link to this major tourist destination in China. It further boosts air connectivity between Singapore and China’s secondary cities, enhancing Changi’s attractiveness as an air hub in the region. We congratulate Jetstar on the launch of this new service and look forward to working closely with Jetstar to support its growth in the China market and beyond.”
