Jetstar launches long haul services from Singapore

Jetstar has launched Singapore’s first long haul low fare airline offering two-class A330-200* services from Changi Airport direct to Melbourne and Auckland.
The low fares leader will start a daily direct Singapore*- Melbourne return service from 16 December 2010.

Both new A330 routes form part of Jetstar’s ever expanding pan Asian network, provide first time value based long haul flying in Singapore and Auckland.
It grows the Qantas Group’s presence in these markets and these services will offer a Qantas code share and connectivity to Jetstar and Qantas flights through Singapore.

Singapore*- Melbourne special sale fares (JetSaver Light) are available TODAY (9 June 2010) between 3pm and 5pm (Singapore time) from S$98# one way at Jetstar.com for a strictly limited time unless seats sell out prior.

Jetstar’s long haul services build on its commitment to offer customers choice including its international business class, StarClass, modern fleet, comfortable all leather seating and a range of meals and in-flight entertainment.
Jetstar Chief Executive Officer Bruce Buchanan joined Jetstar Asia & Valuair CEO Ms Chong Phit Lian at today’s announcement held in Singapore.
Jetstar Chief Executive Officer Bruce Buchanan said by building this new long haul flying through Singapore, Jetstar’s three largest operations in Australia, Singapore and New Zealand would be connected offering customers an array of new affordable travel options.
“Connecting our three largest operations in Australia, New Zealand and Singapore strengthens each of these businesses and builds a solid foundation for future growth beyond Singapore to North Asia and Europe,” Mr Buchanan said.
Ms Chong Phit Lian said Jetstar would next year bring much needed future competition to the Singapore*-Auckland route and provide exciting new connections for all our partners.
“Jetstar continues to spread its wings out of Singapore with this aviation first linking destinations across Asia with our famous low fares,” Ms Chong said.
“This announcement reaffirms Jetstar’s long term commitment to provide greater low fare flying opportunities for all Singaporeans.”
Ms Chong said Jetstar’s Singapore A330 services will offer attractive fares and through connections from Changi Airport to other Jetstar markets in Asia including Phuket and Bangkok (Thailand), Denpasar and Jakarta (Indonesia), Kuala Lumpur and Penang (Malaysia), Hong Kong and Macau (China) and Ho Chi Minh City (Vietnam).
Additionally a number of return connections to Australia ex Melbourne will include Sydney, Gold Coast, Brisbane, Adelaide, Hobart and Launceston and Jetstar’s New Zealand ports of Auckland, Christchurch, Wellington and Queenstown.
Mr Yam Kum Weng, Executive Vice President Changi Airport Group, said: “We welcome the new choices that Jetstar will be offering to travelers on the two routes. Jetstar’s launch of low-cost long-haul flights from Singapore to Melbourne and Auckland will strengthen Changi’s position as the preferred gateway to the Southwest Pacific, and further enhance Singapore’s air hub position.”
Jetstar’s partnership in growth with Singapore Changi Airport will in the future support up to 420 weekly return future services to 23 destinations directly beyond Singapore.
Jetstar will employ up to 200 new aviation jobs across its growing pan Asian network including Pilots, Cabin Crew, Engineers and Airport Customer Service staff through this growth.
