Jetstar has launched a new long-haul, low-cost services between Singapore and Auckland. The new daily service will be operated using a two-class Airbus A330 aircraft.
Jetstar Group CEO, Bruce Buchanan, said the airline group grew its capacity at Singapore Changi Airport by 50 per cent during 2010, and that it expects to see strong double digit growth again in 2011.
Buchanan joined Jetstar Asia CEO, Chong Phit Lian, in Singapore to celebrate the launch, with Ms Chong flying on the inaugural service.
“Our Singapore-Auckland daily service connects two important parts of the Jetstar’s pan-Asian network, allowing us to bring competition and low fares to the Singapore and Auckland market, whilst giving customers many more low fare options to access cities beyond on the Jetstar network,” Buchanan said. “Jetstar’s ongoing development of numerous commercial partnerships allows customers on this service to connect flyers across Southeast Asia including onto Europe through Changi.”
Jetstar daily service from Auckland to Singapore will connect on to Jetstar services beyond Singapore including Jakarta, Bali, Phuket, Ho Chi Minh City and Manila. Full connectivity also exists for Qantas daily European services via Singapore Changi. The carrier also offers international interline itineraries with 21 partners including with Qantas, Air France-KLM and Finnair in Singapore.
Ms Chong added; “Jetstar’s continued fast-paced growth out of Singapore now supports an even wider range of connecting itineraries for travellers into and out of Southeast Asia, through Changi. Our approach leverages Singapore Changi Airport’s leading air gateway status in Asia.
“By launching our every day low fare flights on the Singapore-Auckland route, Jetstar will offer the lowest every day fares for travel between Singapore and New Zealand.
“Low fares will stimulate new demand through the creation of unprecedented accessibility to and within New Zealand for Singaporean and international flyers.
“Whilst this is a challenging time for our neighbours in New Zealand, including in Christchurch, we remain acutely aware of the important role of tourism and its vital contribution to the New Zealand economy,” she concluded.
Jetstar, Tourism New Zealand and Auckland Airport have launched a multi-million dollar advertising campaign in Singapore featuring local celebrity and Jetstar Ambassador Joanne Peh.
The two-month campaign was shot in New Zealand last month and will appear on television, in print, online and on the interior of MRT trains in Singapore.
Tourism New Zealand Chief Executive, Kevin Bowler, welcomed the new Jetstar route.
“Visitor numbers to New Zealand from Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and India have grown strongly over the past 12 months and this new service will help keep the momentum going. The competitive pricing and additional seating capacity provided by Jetstar on this route will also make accessing New Zealand easier for visitors from other Asian countries, including China,” Bowler said.
The service will depart Singapore at 7.50pm each day, arriving in Auckland at 10.55am. The return service will leave Auckland at 12.25pm, arriving in Singapore at 6pm.
