Jetstar Pacific is the product of a strategic partnership between Qantas and Vietnam’s second-largest carrier, Pacific Airlines. It will take to the skies on May 23 using Pacific Airlines’ fleet of four Boeing 737s, Daily Telegraph reported.
To facilitate the expansion of the relaunched airline, Qantas has committed 30 new Airbus A320s, the first of which will be delivered in August.
The initial phase will see the airline building its domestic operations in Vietnam.
”Jetstar Pacific will also expand daily frequencies on its largest market between Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi and has plans for future growth from Hanoi to other Vietnamese cities including Da Lat, Buon Me Thout and Can Tho,” Jetstar Pacific Chief Executive Luong Hoai Nam was quoted saying by The Age.
International routes to Thailand, Cambodia, Malaysia and Singapore are expected as early as end of the year, The Daily Telegraph said.
Jetstar-branded operations into Vietnam currently include a three times weekly Sydney-Ho Chi Minh City service and Singapore-Ho Chi Minh City operating 16 times week.
Jetstar Pacific now flies to seven destinations in Vietnam operating almost 130 weekly return services.
