Jetstar has confirmed that it will operate its first Boeing 787 Dreamliner on domestic routes in Australia, prior to rolling out the aircraft on international sectors.
The low-cost carrier’s first Dreamliner is currently being assembled in the US, ahead of delivery in September this year. And Jetstar confirmed this week that it would initially operate the new twin-aisle aircraft within Australia, with Cairns and the Gold Coast being considered as possible destinations.
“This first aircraft will be our only 787 to fly domestically before joining our international network, providing a great window of opportunity for thousands of domestic travellers to experience the 787,” said the director of Jetstar’s B787 programme, Mark Dal Pra.
“The technology of the 787 will deliver a superior travelling experience onboard and it’s great to see our first aircraft so close to completion.”
Jetstar’s Dreamliners will come equipped with on demand in-flight entertainment in every seat, and well as a ‘seat chat’ messaging service, USB ports and power outlets.
Jetstar expects to receive three B787s by the end of this year and will have an all-Dreamliner long-haul fleet by 2015, operating to destinations including Bali, Phuket, Bangkok, Honolulu, Tokyo and Osaka, Singapore, Beijing, Osaka and Auckland, from both Australia and Singapore.
