Jetstar receives 100th aircraft
Jetstar has taken delivery of its 100th aircraft.
The new Airbus A320 aircraft has been adorned with a special livery to mark the landmark occasion, featuring 132 people doing a star jump. The 180-seat single-aisle jet also comes equipped with ‘Sharklets’ – the wing-tip extensions designed to reduce fuel burn.
“With the benefit of our common fleet, we’re able to carry more people, to more places, more often,” said Jetstar’s Group CEO, Jayne Hrdlicka. “The delivery of this new A320, with its remarkable wing-tip technology, reflects our on-going commitment to invest in modern aircraft and innovation to benefit our customers.”
Jetstar launched in Australia in 2004 with a fleet of 14 aircraft. It now operates 100 aircraft across its four regional subsidiaries, in Australia, Singapore, Vietnam and Japan. Jetstar Hong Kong is expected to start operating by the end of this year.
“Throughout its short history, Jetstar has taken low fares travel to new frontiers, expanding into markets never previously served by low cost carriers,” Ms Hrdlicka said. “It is truly huge growth opportunity for the Qantas Group over the coming years, as Jetstar continues to develop across the world’s most exciting aviation markets.”
