Jharkhand is looking at diversifying its product offerings by tapping adventure tourists to the state.
“The Jharkhand Adventure Tourism Institute was established by the government in 2008 to promote adventure tourism in the state but has been inactive for the last few years. We are once again planning to revive the institution so we can attract more adventure-loving people,” said Sajal Chakravarty, additional chief secretary of the state tourism department was quoted as saying by the Times of India.
Adding further, Chakravarty said, “We will provide few boats to each district to start boating facilities and will also provide them with tents so that they can organize camping trips as water and land sports have much scope in the state. The department will also train those in charge of organizing these sports.”
Gurpreet Singh, director of National Adventure Tourism Foundation-Giridih, said, “Jharkhand has many possibilities in adventure tourism. We offer programmes like water skiing, trekking, cycling, parasailing, hot-air ballooning and other adventure sports and there is a huge demand for these sports among tourists and also locals.”
