Khiri Travel has introduced a new forest hiking trip in the hills of central Sri Lanka.
The new three-day/two-night trip takes guests from Ohiya to Bambarakanda and includes guides, a porter and chef.
“Our concept is to create a highly rewarding three-day nature experience that can be inserted into any Sri Lankan trip,” said Ruben Derksen, general manager of Khiri Travel Sri Lanka.
The itinerary starts with an overnight train ride from Colombo through the hills of Kandy to the village of Ohiya. Then follows a 14km trek through tea plantation country to Sri Lanka’s highest waterfall, which provides the overnight camping spot.
Subsequent days include optional trips to the UNESCO-listed Sinharaja Rainforest, Udawalwe National Park and Yala National Park, or heading to Sri Lanka’s south coast beaches.
Khiri Travel’s CEO, Richard Brouwer, commented; “The trip offers genuine community engagement at Udaveriya, is low impact throughout, and fits with the Khiri ethos of getting close to people and nature.”
