17 Apr 10, Tumon, Guam (TravMedia.com) – Jin Air International, a low-cost carrier from Korea, begins daily flights from Icheon International Airport to Guam on April 20. The inaugural flight will bring Korean and Guam dignitaries to a welcome reception at A.B. Won Pat International Airport along with 150 Korean tourists.
Guam Visitors Bureau (GVB) met with Jin Air executives earlier this month, confirming international service to Guam remains on target to start next week. The new airline entrant will use 737-800 aircraft with capacity of 183 passengers, providing consumers with a convenient departure time of 10 a.m.
(local) and arrival time of 3:30 p.m. Flights will depart everyday direct to Korea at 4:30 p.m.
“We’re excited about Jin Air opening international service to Guam,” said GVB Acting General Manager Ernie Galito. “It provides us with an additional carrier, nearly doubling our seat capacity from Korea. It gives consumers a choice between carriers when they’re booking a flight here.” In March 2010, 6,624 visitors from Korea arrived on Guam, a 46.5 percent increase from this time last year. On average, the daily spending for tourists arriving from Korea is about $367.
Jin Air began operations in July 2007 with 14,200 flights. The airline, a subsidiary of Korean Air, has worked with the United States FAA for almost two years in order to start direct service to Guam.
The airline launched its “Save the Air” environmentally friendly campaign in September 2009, which focuses on reducing emissions by decreasing airplane weight.
