The Sri Lanka Collection has announced the addition of a new member, Kumu Beach in Balapitiya Beach. This newly completed boutique property by Teardrop Hotels opened in August and becomes the 13th hotels in The Sri Lanka Collection’s portfolio.
Kumu Beach in Balapitiya is a newly built 10-bedroom boutique hotel set in a garden with 23-metre swimming pool bordering the beach. There are three room categories: Deluxe Ocean View Suites (4), Ocean View Bedrooms (4) and Kumu Bedrooms (2).
Some properties open onto either private balconies or garden terraces. The hotel features a pair of lounges, a long dining terrace, an indoor bar and a timber sunbathing deck. The décor has been designed by Sri Lankan interior designer, Annika Fernando, local batik artist Sonali Dhamawardena and sculptor Prageeth Manohansa.
The nearby beach is a nesting ground for marine turtles, and nearby Ambalangoda is a centre for crafts such as mask making. Other local experiences include river cruises up the Madu Ganga, water sports in Bentota and touring the estates of brothers, Geoffrey and Bevis Bawa.
The nearest railway station to the hotel is in Balapitiya, and the closest air taxi landing spot is in Bentota. Sri Lanka’s capital Colombo is a 2.5-hour drive and the international airport is 130-kilometres away. Hikkaduwa, a surfing and snorkelling hotspot, and the World Heritage Fort of Galle are day-tripping distance away.
