Laguna Bali pays homage to Batik

Nusa Dua, Bali, October 2009,- The President of Republic of Indonesia H.E. Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono requested all Indonesians to wear batik on Friday, 2nd October 2009 to celebrate the official international acknowledgment by United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural (UNESCO) to add BATIK to its Intangible Cultural Heritage list in the world and is an authentic cultural heritage from Indonesia.
To support this initiative, The Laguna, a Luxury Collection Resort & Spa, Nusa Dua, Bali celebrated BATIK day with all associates in the resort in fine batik wear and a BATIK Costume Competition was held on the day. The competition parade comprised of both male and female associates represented from various departments of the hotel, which was held in the Associates dining room Sanjiwani. Everyone enjoyed a fine selection of traditional exquisite cuisine specially prepared by the hotel’s Culinary team served at lunch and dinner with live band entertainment. All in recognition of Batik Day, had much fun and joy!
Also as part of the celebration, the resort presented a Batik painting demonstration at the lobby for guests to enjoy and learn traditional Balinese batik by Mr. Ketut Sariastra from Tampaksiring Village, who has for 30 years been producing the authentic Balinese Batik. A number of BATIK variations were showcased to provide the opportunity to guests to purchase as souvenirs to take home.
