Tiger Trail Outdoor Adventures, a Laos-based adventure travel operator, will expand its operations to Thailand. The Tiger Trail Thailand headquarters will open 1 July in Chiang Mai.
Tiger Trail Thailand will offer outdoor adventure tours across the country, not just the north. The tours will include treks, wildlife expeditions, national park outings, bird watching, bicycle tours, rafting, kayaking, canopy experiences and educational programs aimed at environmental awareness and nature conservation.
Tiger Trail Outdoor Adventures has been working in the field of responsible adventure travel in the northern Laos town of Luang Prabang since the company’s foundation in 2000. In 2005, Tiger Trail initiated ‘Fair Trek’, an organised trekking programme that benefits local communities being visited.
Markus Neuer, Director of Tiger Trail, said; “The expansion to Thailand is a logical next step for us after exploring and evaluating the current adventure tourism sector in Thailand. We will come into the market with activities and tours in the middle and high end of the market that will follow our responsible tourism guidelines and principles.”
He added: “We do not want to compete with local price-led operators but will widen the market for responsible travelers who are willing to pay more for a high quality sustainable and responsible product. Our expertise from Laos, combined with knowledge of Thai tourism industry will give us a chance to quickly develop our products and start operating nationwide,” said Neuer.
Martijn Blankers, General Manager of Tiger Trail Thailand, said that while Thailand is already established as an outdoor adventure destination, there is a space in the market. “We believe the adventure travel market here is now ready for innovative and sustainable products of high quality,” he said.
