The growth trend of low-cost carriers is linked to that of the budget hotel chain 10 years ago, according to Capita travel and events.
Its low-cost carrier sales have increased 31% year-on-year as more airlines come online and businesses spend cautiously.
It also praised the model for helping traditional airlines think differently and as such make the market more flexible.
“Low cost carriers have become increasingly acceptable as part of business travel planning for our customers as we continue to help customers create stronger policy controls around the use of ‘lowest logical fares’. The price dynamics and flight scheduling convenience are factors in their popularity, as is our sourcing strategy because we aren’t totally reliant on any single source for our air fares,” said Capita’s air product manager Corrie Long.
