Indonesia’s Lion Group has formed a new partnership with Airbus designed to develop new pilot training programmes for its airlines.
The new agreement will see Airbus devise pilot training programmes, plus providing the documentation and tools necessary for training courses to be conducted at Lion’s Angkasa Aviation Academy in Jakarta.
Airbus has also agreed to deploy staff to the training centre, which will start receiving four new A320 flight simulators from the end of this month.
“The decision to partner with Airbus for provision of flight training services, demonstrates that Lion Group and Angkasa Aviation Academy are investing heavily in training and are continuing to bring to Indonesia internationally-recognised training courses,” said Rusdi Kirana, president director of the Lion Group.
“This new cooperation with Airbus on flight training will enhance Indonesia’s training capabilities and will complement our current activities. It will offer the newest flight simulator technology in conjunction with the industry’s most experienced instructors,” he added.
Lion is in need of new pilots, as it currently has outstanding orders for more than 500 new aircraft. These include 234 A320-series aircraft, which it ordered in March 2013. The first aircraft from this order is due to be delivered in July 2014, and will be operated by Lion’s full-service subsidiary, Batik Air.
