Airlines confirmed today that flights from London to Bangkok are still in operation despite the protest situation in Thailand. As travellers are advised not to travel to the country, several airlines have changed their commercial policies to help those who have flight tickets to Bangkok. British Airways and Emirates told Travel Daily they had not cancelled or reduced services to the city and were operating as normal. However, those who hold a ticket can rebook to the same destination up to 30 June. Rebookings to an alternative destination are also available with BA, using the value of the ticket towards the purchase of the new one. Passengers partly through their journey can rebook on the next available flight home or remove Bangkok as a stopover. Emirates will refund any tickets to Bangkok until 31 May 2010 if passengers wish to cancel. “Any Emirates passengers who have booked tickets to Bangkok through tour operators or travel agents are advised to contact them in the first instance,” the airline confirmed. Meanwhile, PATA and the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) have agreed to shape a tourism recovery plan for Thailand once the situation in Bangkok has been stabilised. PATA members met earlier this week in an off-site location to discuss the first phases of recovery operations. “PATA emphasises that travel to Thailand is still safe. The major part of Bangkok remains open and accessible for tourists and business travellers with hotels, shops and tourist sites open for business,” said PATA CEO Greg Duffell. “The popular tourist resorts such as Phuket, Koh Samui, Krabi and Pattaya are unaffected”. PATA employees have been working from home as its office is in the ‘danger zone’ but most are still contactable by email.
