The EDF Energy London Eye has had its most successful summer since its opening, it has been revealed. The attraction carried 8% more visitors this year than last year and has now hosted more than 42 million passengers in total. It has attributed the Royal Wedding effect and favourable exchange rate to the increase, particularly as one in 10 visitors have been from the USA and 12% are from Italy and Germany. Its Champagne Experience and Afternoon Tea capsules have also been popular with visitors. “It’s great to see the EDF Energy London Eye maintaining momentum and going from strength to strength,” said David Sharpe, divisional director (London) for the Merlin Entertainments Group. “The Royal Wedding and other International events have helped to boost our success. In 2002, during the Queen’s Golden Jubilee, we also saw an incredible influx of guests, but this year has now trumped that”.
