London Zoo opens new attraction

London’s only living rainforest opened over the weekend at ZSL London Zoo. Officially opened on 27 March, the flagship attraction allows visitors to experience rain, living trees, tropical climates and endangered animals in a rainforest environment. With no glass or bars in sight, guests can walk through the forest, which is built inside a bio-dome so it can be kept at a tropical 80oF. Inside the dome titi monkeys, golden-headed lion tamarins and sloths will live amongst the trumpet trees and yellow rattle shaker plants, which were brought to London from Costa Rica.”These forests are home to thousands of endangered animals and they are disappearing fast. Hopefully by seeing how breathtakingly amazing rainforests are, we can encourage visitors to protect the world’s last remaining few,” said ZSL’s Trade Marketing Manager Gwyn Davis.The Night Life area is full of bats, rats and nocturnal animals such as lorises, armadillos and pottos for visitors to see.The exhibit is timed to coincide with the International Year of Biodiversity.
