A Qantas flight en route to Los Angeles was forced to turn back to Melbourne yesterday after what passengers described as a “long bang”, the Sydney Morning Herald reported.
“We were still going up when we heard this really loud bang and the plane started to level out,” passenger Cormac Lally was quoted saying. “Not long after, the pilot came on the speaker and said we’re going to turn back. It was pretty full-on.”
A Qantas spokesperson this afternoon confirmed the Boeing 747-400 was forced to return to Melbourne, but said there was “no safety issue and no emergency”.
