Saudi Arabia has announced plans to expand its low-cost Hajj programmes.
This new development was announced by minister of Hajj, Bandar Hajjar. He further mentioned that officials are working to set up programmes that would ensure control over fees charged for citizens and residents going on Hajj.
The minister announced the operational plan of general administration of local pilgrims for the coming year. This included a review of efficiency of last year’s operational plan. Hajjar also urged officials to start preparing and allocating camps for pilgrims as soon as possible, and complete all procedures to link agencies and service providers electronically.
There was a need for expansion of media and awareness programmes, eradication of fake Hajj offices, and development of procedures related to booking and issuing of licenses. It was further announced that 18 ministry committees have started preparations to oversee the election of tawafa officials, including ensuring that all voter information is accurate and voters are eligible to participate.
