Lufthansa has taken delivery of its first Airbus A380 aircraft, which is equipped with what it claims is the world’s quietest First Class cabin.
The new cabin design features a range of sound absorption measures, including specially designed curtains, sound- insulating materials and new carpeting.
The A380 features 526 seats, eight of which are in First Class and 98 in Business Class.
Lufthansa will start scheduled operations with its first A380 on 11 June on its Frankfurt-Tokyo route. It will then be rolled out on the Beijing route three times weekly from 25 August and on the Johannesburg service from 25 October.
The airline said it was currently evaluating on which routes the super jumbo would be rolled out in 2011 and beyond.
A spokesperson said it was too early to say whether or not the A380 would serve Lufthansa’s Middle East routes.
“The Middle East in general and the UAE in specific are key growth areas for Lufthansa,” said the spokesperson.
“Over the past 18 months we have invested heavily in the region and currently serve 14 cities in 11 countries in the Middle East with a total of 101 flights a week.
We have most recently decided to operate our Dubai-Munich route year-round on the largest version of the Airbus A340, the seat A340-600 and will continue to closely monitor the market.
“At this stage it is too early to communicate any additional A380 destinations though.”
