Macau’s casino revenue rose 8.1% in the first three months of 2009 compared to the previous quarter, perhaps signalling the start of a recovery for the city’s main industry.
Casino revenue rose MOP26 billion (US$3.2 billion) from MOP24.1 billion in the final three months of 2008, according to statistics on the Macau Gaming Inspection and Co-ordination Bureau Web site. However revenue remained 13% down from a year earlier, when the casinos hauled in a record MOP29.8 billion.
Las Vegas Sands Corp. said this month it may resume building this calendar year on optimism casino revenue is picking up.
