Madame Tussauds Hong Kong has launched a new area dedicated to Korean pop culture.
The brand new ‘K-wave Zone’ at the waxwork attraction was launched last week in a ceremony attended by Choi Siwon, a member of the K-pop group, Super Junior.
The new area, which becomes Madame Tussauds Hong Kong’s 10th themed zone, will initially feature seven waxwork figures of popular South Korean singers and actors. But a second wave of new waxworks is expected to be completed by the end of this year, including Choi Siwon.
“The Korean wave is undoubtedly surging in Greater China and Asia Pacific, and it is making a huge impact on, if not reigning over, popular culture worldwide,” said Kelly Mak, general manager of Madame Tussauds Hong Kong.
“From now on, those who are passionate about Korean culture won’t have to travel to Seoul to get up close to their favourite Korean celebrities and enjoy an interactive experience created by advanced technology.
“Central to Madame Tussauds Hong Kong’s 15th anniversary and our third expansion project, the addition of the K-wave Zone is the culmination of meticulous planning and arduous hard work that has begun several years ago,” she added.
Madame Tussauds Hong Kong now features more than 100 local and international celebrity waxworks.
