Iranian airline Mahan Air will launch flights to Shanghai Pudong Airport on 2 September. “We are delighted to announce Shanghi as our third new route for 2011, after Kuala Lumpur to Mashad as well as flights to Istanbul Sabiha Airport (SAW), Turkey,” said Hossein Hosseini, director of Marketing for Mahan Air.”We have seen significant increase in demand for Shanghai as a focal point of trade and tourism for the Iranian travellers. Additionally, the strong demand shown by Chinese businessmen to travel to Iran and the continued growth of trade volume between Iran and China has created the right opportunities for introducing direct flights between the two great cities of Shanghai and Tehran.” The twice weekly non-stop flight will utilise a Boeing 747 equipped with 387 economy and 44 business class seats. In conjunction with the launch of this new destination, the airline is offering promotional airfares and double mileage for its Mahan & Miles members until 31 December. Shanghai will be the 18th international destination served by the airline. Established in 1991, Mahan Air has a fleet of more than 38 airbus and Boeing passenger aircraft.
