Maharashtra government’s plan to transport vehicles and passengers using boats from Ferry Wharf to Mandwa has run into rough weather. The Mumbai Port Trust (MPT) has asked for a underpass or a flyover to be built near Orange Gate junction to avoid traffic jams affecting its own road. The INR250 crore project is expected to carry vehicles and passengers to the hinterland and will be a boon for goods transport. The fee
levied for ferrying trucks and cars across the harbour has been pegged at INR600 and INR 300 respectively.
“We will try and sort out the problem with the MPT and hope the project goes ahead. The building of an underpass will take time, however, a flyover will be faster and cheaper,” senior government official told the
Times of India.
